Y: The Last Man standing - Promising, but disappointing

I think over the various episodes, the show moved into a different segue. It started off with a promise, of no men. Then there was one man found, which till the very end, it’s impossible to know why he was the one surviving, when literally everyone else is dead. The genetic scientist, I believe from Harvard, made a good point. Him surviving on his own means nothing, but him surviving alongside Ampersand, the monkey, might mean something.

I didn’t end up reviewing each and every episode and frankly, I think I will be stopping that practice. Reviewing each and every episode in a series of show is just too much trouble and frankly, not even worth it in most cases.

I think this show had potential and it still does. The director tries to tackle the preconceived notions about masculinity and feminism, and says that without order and without the checks of the other gender, how every gender is susceptible to chaos and anarchy.

There is less emotional dependence in this show, and it is largely due to the fact that they want to portray a political angle to the show. Which is fine, but the myopic view of the world and the display of what entails the duties of the US president is striking.

The US President is supposedly only concerned with what happens in the US, which is in stark contrast to what the President actually does. The lack of advisors, the lack of constitution in the United States and the sheer lack of a system is alarming. And at the same time, the rise of this militia group of women, who want to take over the world and even attack the Presidency. Well. That’s not good. This show has promise and hopefully, I will get to see the story behind why all the Y Chromosome men vanished from the world.

It's not really groundbreaking as an idea, the differentiation will come from the way it is implemented and moreover, where the story goes after a couple of seasons. After Season 1, it's OK. Whether its more than enough to actually hold the viewers' interest is something else entirely. Mostly because it doesn't feel any different than the hundreds of other apocalyptic shows and frankly, the Zombie shows feel better. I'd rate it a solid 4 out of ten for now, but it has potential to ramp up and go straight up to an eight.
