Visit to Nandankanan - Super tiring, but a welcome break from the monotony

So my visit to Nandankanan happened and it was good. I enjoyed going someplace in Bhubaneswar. Part of the reason I’ve not been super-hyped with this move is that there’s hardly anything to do in Bhubaneswar. And my work-from-home essentially means I spend a lot of time at home. This is also very unhealthy for me as a handicap as I will tend to gain tremendous weight, leading to more pressure on my knee joint and changes to my gait and stature.

So going to Nandankanan was actually very refreshing for me although I expected it to be quite challenging physically. In the last few months, I think it’s been more than a year, and I’ve not really had an opportunity to push my physical limits.

And here I was going into the zoo under the scorching Bhubaneswar sun. The first 1-2 hours went decent, I was excited, I was walking fine. But then the heat started getting to me, And I could physically feel the discomfort. Even though it was not a very long walk, I was panting towards the second half of the walk.

I remember describing it to Quincy as similar to as if I’ve run 5 km or something, cause I was panting a lot. But we took a few breaks and I carried on. It helps when you have a goal in sight, you can push your limits to go and reach that goal.

Would I do it again? Absolutely

It was very tiring, my t-shirt was drenched in sweat and I had to change it. We also decided to skip some of the latter parts of the tour - namely the Aviary and the Boating section.

The visit to Nandankanan Zoo was the first ‘real’ outing. It got me panting, but it also showed me just how unfit I was. This gives me a goal to become fit and I do have a deadline - October when I go to Singapore.

Excited for the future. I can only see bright ideas ahead - including one visit to Mumbai, one to Singapore and one to probably Kolkata later this year.
