Tu Jhooti Main Makaar and Main Bhaaga

I think Indian movie reviews are being massively bombarded with positive reviews at launch. I remember passionately following the reviews for Tu Jhoothi Main Makaar at launch. And despite not being a movie that was over the top with its advertising, it was so very confusing.

The movie actually has a very good story, but the directing continuously seems to revert back to a comic angle.

There were so many times in the movie when a random, supposedly comic timing, should have made you smile. But you then wonder whether this movie is going to be a serious story-based one or a random comic without a decent story.

I guess that’s suspense in watching the movie. Adding classic movies in a random dialog just throws you off, even for a comedy scene.

Tu Jhooti Main Makaar felt like the director had no idea what he wanted to make. He took a perfectly sound story and weaved it into his vision of what he wanted a story to be.

And the impact is evident. There are clear instances when the story could have diverged into a serious romantic / thriller kind of movie, but instead, it morphed into a tale of a family drama. It was a feel-good ending, but no one, and I repeat, no one at the beginning of the movie would’ve guessed that this movie would end up with a prolonged scene about a family that’s just non-stop quarreling on the way to the airport, during the airport and after.

Yes, I get it. You want to portray the Kapoor Khandan’s unity and how a joint family is good for India. But in trying to impose that story over the original theme of this script, it feels both potential storylines have been spoilt.

Hoping for some Indian movie with top actors that actually is serious and delivers.
